Land Rover Chassis Model Information

 

Marsland Chassis produce a range of chassis and chassis parts for Land Rover vehicles.

Chassis are available for 88" wheelbase Land Rovers, these chassis are also suitable for II/IIA rebuilds.

In addition the range also includes the Air Portable or Lightweight models.

The Short Wheelbase Land Rover is commonly referred to as the or 88" model since this is the measurement between the front and rear axles.

Marsland Chassis produce galvanised versions of all the current product range.

SERIES 1

1948-58

The Series I appeared in 1948 as the 80" model with a 1.6 litre engine. A 2 litre version followed in 1952. The wheelbase increased to 86" in 1954, and a LWB 107" variant was also launched.

Series 1

SERIES II

1958-61

The Series II was made between 1958 and 1961, it had the now classic 2¼ litre petrol engine and headlamps mounted either side of the radiator grill.

Series 2

SERIES IIA

1961-71

The Series IIA was introduced in 1961 with slight cosmetic changes and the option of a diesel engine for greater fuel economy.

Late model IIA's had wing mounted headlamps and a redesigned metal radiator grill.

Series 2A

LIGHT WEIGHT

AIR PORTABLE

1968

In 1968 the Lightweight or more technically Air Portable Land Rover was supplied to the military establishment. The body shape is more angular and despite its name it is not substantially lighter than a normal 88". It was designed so that a lot of the body panels could be easily and quickly removed to make it light enough to be lifted by the Helicopters of the time.

Lightweight - Airportable

1971-85

A major face lift was introduced in 1971 with the arrival of the . The new model sported wing mounted head lamps, and a moulded plastic radiator grill.

A more modern interior and dash layout completed the overhaul. Later models included a full synchromesh gearbox, production ceased in 1985.
